Vendors selling merchandise must be in compliance with the NYS Sales Tax Department.

You may apply for a Tax ID number online www.businessexpress.ny.gov or you may mail Form DTF-17 to them.

If a NYS Sales Tax Certificate is required, it is free and easy to receive one.

If you apply it may take some time to receive it, so always carry a copy of your application with you when you sell at any fair in New York State.

Anybody may apply and be approved, regardless of where they live, their age, or whether they are applying as an individual or company. 

You do not need an attorney or an accountant to apply.

Be aware that If you are not in compliance you are subject to whatever penalties they impose should they visit you at any event.

In addition to the above, food vendors selling from tables or trucks must be in compliance with the Nassau County Health Department.
