If a NYS Sales Tax Certificate is required, it is free and easy to receive one.
If you apply it may take some time to receive it, so always carry a copy of your application with you when you sell at any fair in New York State.
Anybody may apply and be approved, regardless of where they live, their age, or whether they are applying as an individual or company.
You do not need an attorney or an accountant to apply.
Be aware that If you are not in compliance you are subject to whatever penalties they impose should they visit you at any event.
NASSAU COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT FOR FOOD VENDORS
In addition to the above, food vendors selling from tables or trucks must be in compliance with the Nassau County Health Department.
If you are planning to sell any kind of food, you should call them to avoid problems should they visit you at an event.

Set out at least one garbage can for your customers.
Empty your garbage can(s) throughout the day to prevent them from overflowing.
Make sure your selling area is free of debris at the end of the day.
If using a generator, use one that does not affect your neighboring vendors with noise or fumes.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL VENDORS:
Do not block access of visibility of neighboring vendors by setting up beyond your selling area.
Set up your entire display including tables chairs tent and merchandise inside your assigned space.
Keep your selling area clean and clear of debris throughout the day.
Bring your own garbage bags and take your garbage with you when you leave at the end of the day.
Do not dispose of your garbage in the public garbage cans.
Do not rove the fair handing out literature or placing flyers on parked cars.
Remain in your booth.
2. Do not call out to or solicit or approach customers walking by or shopping at other vendor's booths.
3. You may greet customers as they approach your booth and do business inside your selling area.
